There is no doubt we are stronger as a state when we embrace our differences and use our diversity as an asset. To better achieve this, Governor Gary R. Herbert created the Utah Office of Multicultural Affairs and Multicultural Commission in 2013 by executive order and appointed Lt. Governor Spencer Cox as chair of the commission. The mission of the Office of Multicultural Affairs is to promote an inclusive climate for Utah’s multicultural communities. They do this in many ways, including but not limited to: partnering with state agencies to assure equity and access to [inter]culturally competent programs and services while developing a strategic plan to identify needs, goals, and deliverables that will directly impact the most significant needs of vulnerable communities in the state.

As chair of the Multicultural Commission, Lt. Governor Cox has had the privilege to work closely with the multicultural communities of Utah and learn about the immense value they add to the state and the challenges they face.
