Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson provides status update on Second Congressional District recount
SALT LAKE CITY (Aug. 2, 2024) – Yesterday, the Tooele county clerk discovered an issue during their recount process affecting the way 55 adjudicated ballots were tallied. At this time, Washington County is the only other county in the Second Congressional District that is known to have experienced this issue. They are currently reviewing their adjudicated ballots.
“Nothing is more important to state and local election officials than ensuring that every eligible vote is accurately counted. This is part of the process and why we have recounts. I am grateful to Tooele County Clerk Tracy Shaw who, because of her diligence, discovered this issue, brought it to our attention, and corrected it.” – Lt. Gov. Henderson.
Canvassing was paused Thursday while a thorough review is being conducted in each county, overseen by state Director of Elections Ryan Cowley. The recount will be completed by Monday, August 5, as required by law. More details will be provided at that time.
