News from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor

Brigham Young University honored Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson with the Alumni Achievement Award from the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences. Lt. Governor Henderson’s pathway to graduation wasn’t a traditional one, but she had professors who encouraged her all along the way. The current BYU students who filled the auditorium were enthusiastic and engaged during her lecture.

Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson joined thousands of students, parents, and teachers in the statewide Utah Reads Read-a-Thon. She and the Nebo School District Superintendent read to a class at Mt. Loafer Elementary in Salem. It was a great celebration of the magic of books and how they can spark imagination.

Apprenticeships are powerful ways to gain education and bolster the workforce. Lt. Gov. Henderson led a delegation to Indianapolis to meet with business and government leaders. The group learned how Indiana has structured the nation’s most advanced employer-driven apprenticeship program.

Lt. Gov. Henderson was the keynote speaker at the 2026 Commencement Ceremony for Landmark High School. These students faced all different kinds of setbacks in their lives. But each one kept moving forward, and chose a new, better path. Lt. Gov. Henderson reminded them that where you start is not necessarily where you end up.

Hundreds of students from across the Wasatch Front came to the Capitol to be inspired. Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson spoke on the importance of personal narratives and shared her own journey to Utah’s executive branch. Students met with mentors, networked with each other, and took part in a mini job fair.

Lt. Gov. Henderson championed the construction of the new USU Monument Valley education building. It will provide higher education opportunities to students in one of the most remote parts of our state. It is an investment in the community, the people, and the future.
