State officials met with educators, business leaders, librarians and others to discuss ways to help our children level up literacy skills. The Lt. Gov. joined authors like Brandon Mull, Ally Condie and Jennifer Nielsen in sharing how reading has benefitted them and how it can do the same for all Utah kids.

The $30.7 billion plan focuses on Utah families and responsible budgeting. Among other funding proposals, the Lt. Governor announced an expansion of the Child Tax Credit, support of the National School Lunch Program and support for Volunteer for Good, a program that provides service opportunities to Utah high school students.

The Lt. Governor continues literacy visits all across Utah to learn how educators are using specialized training to teach reading skills. Lt. The Utah Firefighter Cancer Initiative Health and Wellness Center will be the most comprehensive firefighter cancer screening program in the country. Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson toured the facility and spoke at the official hose-cutting ceremony. Early screenings, education and funding will help save the lives of those who save ours.
